Did you know that the space around your fan directly impacts its performance? If the installation area is too confined, it can restrict airflow and reduce efficiency. Conversely, an excessively large space may lower overall ventilation effectiveness and waste valuable area. So, what are the ideal space requirements?
For Axial Fans:
The airflow in axial fans moves parallel to the shaft. Therefore:
Radial Space: The diameter of the installation opening should not be smaller than the fan's own diameter.
Axial Clearance: It is crucial to maintain sufficient clearance from obstacles at both the inlet and outlet. Performance data indicates that maintaining a distance of at least 35% of the impeller diameter from any obstruction at the inlet or outlet is optimal for performance.

For Backward-Curved Centrifugal Fans:
The airflow path in these fans is different; air enters axially and is discharged radially by centrifugal force. This change in direction requires specific installation considerations:
Inlet Side: The distance from the air inlet to any obstacle should be no less than 0.5 times the impeller diameter.
Outlet Side (Volute/Casing): To ensure smooth airflow discharge, the space around the impeller's periphery must be clear. It is recommended to keep a minimum distance of 0.3 times the impeller diameter between the impeller edge and any obstruction in the outlet chamber.
