Understanding IP Rating

Introduction
IP rating (Ingress Protection rating) is an international standard that classifies the degree of protection an electrical device provides against dust and water intrusion.
Details

IP stands for Ingress Protection, a standardized rating system that defines the degree of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment against the intrusion of foreign objects. Under this standard, protection levels are clearly indicated by the letters IP followed by two distinct digits, where each digit represents a specific category of safeguarding.

The first digit denotes the level of protection against solid particles like dust, as well as the safety of personnel within sealed environments from potential hazards. It measures resistance to the entry of solid foreign bodies, with the highest achievable rating being 6.

The second digit specifies the equipment’s waterproof performance, indicating its ability to withstand water penetration. This digit represents protection against moisture and water ingress, with the maximum rating reaching 8.

Take the 3312U axial fan as an example: it boasts an IP68 protection rating.

The first digit, 6, signifies complete protection against dust intrusion, offering full defense against solid foreign particles.

The second digit, 8, means the unit can operate reliably even after being continuously submerged in water at a specified pressure for an extended period.

The appropriate protection level for your fan is primarily determined by its installation environment. Should you need assistance with selection, feel free to contact us.
